The controversy centers around the registration of an FIR against a UK based Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder accused of attempting to convert people to Christianity through religious gatherings.

The OCI cardholder, a Manchester resident, was booked under relevant provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, and the Maharashtra Freedom of Religion Act, 2026.
